Prenatal Chiropractic
What’s prenatal chiropractic?
Chiropractic focuses on the spine, pelvis and nervous system. During pregnancy a woman’s body experiences changes structurally. Prenatal Chiropractic care can help alleviate discomfort and promote overall well-being. It can also help to prepare the body for an easier and safer labor and delivery.
Pregnancy causes changes that affect posture by changing the woman’s center of gravity, the increasing weight of the growing baby places stress on the mother’s pelvis , spine and supporting ligaments. The joints and ligaments are also being affected by the hormone relaxin which creates laxity of the stabilizing ligaments. The changes are necessary for growth and birth of baby but can also cause discomfort.
Dr Stephanie Muir uses gentle specific and affective approach, which is necessary with the increase in ligamentous laxity.
Webster Technique
The primary focus of the Webster Technique is to address pelvic misalignments and balance the muscles and ligaments in the pelvic region. Pelvic misalignment may affect the mother's pelvic biomechanics, potentially leading to intrauterine constraint. By correcting any imbalances in the pelvis, the technique aims to create a more conducive environment for the baby to assume the optimal birthing position.
Pelvic unwinding/standing sacral release
The standing release uses a very light touch to release the fascia around the pelvis and respiratory diaphragms. When effective, this may improve fetal positioning, pelvic alignment, and even reduce heartburn.
Craniosacral Fascial Therapy
If trauma has occurred in the mother it could cause a strained uterus. Instead of expanding easily, the fetus may be forced to grow against tight tissue. In addition, other nearby organs may compress the uterus in competing for abdominal space. As the fetus grows, constant pressure may create a compressive craniosacral fascial strain in its tissues. Ideally this would be addressed prior to pregnancy but can be affective during pregnancy and postpartum. This is also really great for infants following birth as well.

“Dr. Stephanie is absolutely wonderful! I began seeing her late in my third trimester, returned for chiropractic for both my son and I after my delivery, and soon after had my husband there to see her as well! Her work is intuitive, gentle, and effective. As a bonus, she is incredibly informed on natural health and living and is lovely to speak to. My family misses her dearly, since she has moved away!”
